More Christchurch Earthquake Devastation

Full size photo posts so you can see the detail.

Not always obvious to the untrained eye, many buildings stand unoccupied and potentially unusuable.

Some damage is obvious ... ... ...

The Crowne Plaza used to be one of Christchurch's flagship Hotels - now boarded up and with an uncertain future.

To the outsider, many areas just look slightly 'open plan', but there are many missing buildings and shopping areas that have since been cleared, and many businesses have been operating from temporary locations in homes and garages ever since the earthquake struck.

Yet another traditional stone building that succumbed too easily, and the white building to the left ... ... ...

... ... ... is where my friend and colleague stayed last year when he was working here - now another building on the 'unsafe' list.

The same stone building from the other angle - notice the roof tower 'grounded' for future renovation & safety.

You sometimes have to look for a little while to see the amount of support that's been added.

Another cleared area where hustle and bustle has given way to spookily vacant.
